Famine and plague kill more than demons. In every age, in every count.
This is a hard rule, not background statistics. If a tale suggests otherwise — if it gives the impression that most of the dead of Cross died with a claw in the chest — it is writing another universe.
The Cataclysm kills by disorganisation: the harvest lost, the road cut, the village evacuated in November, the column of refugees without clean water, the besieged city with the sewers stopped. It was so in 1782 and it goes on being so in 1890.
