51° to 58° N, an archipelago to the west, separated from the continent by the Insular Channel — a hundred and fifty kilometres at its narrowest.
The two facts of position that decide everything. First, the warm Insular Current washes the whole archipelago: the same latitude as Königsmark, and thirteen degrees warmer in January. Second, it is an island. A hundred and fifty kilometres of water that no demonic army has crossed in a hundred and ten years — and Seal VI, the last to break, broke in the Highlands with six years of warning and less than twelve months of exposure.
