File — Vykhradia

Black soil, 450 mm of rain, no navigable river and no port. The granary that cannot sell.

1. Where it sits

47° to 53° N, the continental east. Roughly 700 km north to south, 600 east to west. To the west, the Twilight Range — Seal II — divides it from the Order; to the east, the border with Vychodstep and the Limbus; to the north, Carpathian forest; to the south, a plateau falling away into steppe.

The two facts of position that decide everything. First, it lies behind the mountain axis, in the rain shadow: 450 mm a year, against 800 in the Order's valleys and 1,400 in Brytonia. Second, it has no coast and no river navigable eastward. The plateau's rivers run down to the Tenebrum Sea, which has been poisoned since 1780 and is a war front.
