1. Where it is
47° to 53° N, the continental east. ~700 km north-south, ~600 east-west. To the west, the Twilight Range (Seal II) separates it from the Order; to the east, the border with the Vychodstep and the Limbo; to the north, Carpathian forest; to the south, a plateau descending to the steppe.
The two facts of position that decide everything:
- It lies behind the axis of ranges — a rain shadow. It receives 450 mm, against the 800 of the Order's valleys and the 1,400 of Brytonia.
- It has no coast and no river navigable to the east. The rivers of the plateau run to the Mar Tenebrum, which has been contaminated since 1780 and is a front of war.
Vykhradia is the only bloc on the continent with no usable outlet of its own to the sea. Everything it exports leaves by land, by road or by rail — and that is why the decision of 1859 about the rail is the most important decision in the history of the bloc.

It lies behind the range, therefore it receives 450 mm, therefore it has no forest on the plain and has steppe-prairie, therefore the black earth accumulated organic matter over millennia without leaching. Therefore it has the best agricultural soil on the continent and a rain that comes in the right month — May to July — for dry-farmed cereal. Therefore it is the granary of Cross, and it feeds every army on the continent, including, by smuggling, the enemy's.
