The eight houses

Seat, motto, arms, income, historic crime and living members in 1890. The lineages that cross all five eras.

The houses do not move history. They move inside it, and what a house does in 1781 explains what a man does in 1888 without either of them altering a single canonical outcome.

The axis of the whole set is a symmetry. Two houses faced ruin at the same moment and answered in opposite ways. One spent a century buying influence and ended on the throne of the One. The other signed a pact over a debt and ended on the other side of the line.
