The forty icons

Four human figures and four infernal presences per era. The names a reader knows without looking them up.

Twenty human, twenty infernal. Four and four per era.

Teorbano III — the last king of Veheran. He was on campaign when Ivandir fell, and spent eighteen years retreating from city to city with an army of remnants. He died on the wall of Vehr Major in 1798, in a siege Aurum Roma did not relieve because the city lay beyond the line. He is the face of the old world being abandoned in writing. Aurelianus I — born Sergio Hoppen, refounder of the See. Elected on 17 October 1813, exactly thirty-three years after Ivandir; the candle of Mikahel flickered three times. He defined the seven States, fixed the Limbus Mundi, refounded the Military Orders and instituted the Perpetual Vigil. He governed twenty-four years and died in liturgical coma, his hands writing the Aurean Canons. Hook: he founded everything that exists and never saw any of it work.
